The 1st International Online Systemic Functional Linguistics Interest Group Conference

16-19 November 2021

Dear Members,

Welcome to the 1st International Online Systemic Functional Linguistics Interest Group Conference (SFLIG 2021). The theme “Systemic Functional Linguistics: Theory and Application” invites us to explore advances in SFL theory and its application in the contemporary global context. Since 2020, the world has raced to respond to the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic and it is more important than ever to know how SFL theory has been applied and researched in various fields during this challenging context. We, therefore, invite contributions applying the overarching theoretical framework of SFL to issues before and during COVID-19 to be presented at our conference. Successful contributions will be published in our peer-reviewed international conference proceedings and in a special issue for Linguistics and the Human Sciences.

Invited contributions include, but are not limited to, the following conference strands:

  • Advances in Systemic Functional Linguistics Theory, Language Description and Typology
  • Systemic Functional Linguistics and Education
  • Systemic Functional Linguistics and Translating and Interpreting
  • Systemic Functional Linguistics and Multilingualism
  • Systemic Functional Linguistics and Multimodality
  • Systemic Functional Linguistics and Media
  • Systemic Functional Linguistics and other fields (Health, Arts, Music, ICT, etc.)
  • Systemic Functional Linguistics and Ecolinguistics
  • Systemic Functional Linguistics, Cognition and Neurolinguistics
  • Systemic Functional Linguistics and Legitimation Code Theory
  • Systemic Functional Linguistics and Application during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Appraisal Framework
